Bespoke Upholstery South Wales – Commercial & Campervan

Campervan Interior and seating upholstery

A good piece of upholstery can feel like a familiar handshake. It welcomes people in, holds its shape through busy days, and quietly tells a story about the place it belongs to. That story is even stronger when the seating has been made for a space on purpose rather than bought straight from a catalogue. That is where our work at Newlook Upholstery – South Wales | Since 1980 | Commercial & Campervan really comes to life for us.

We started Newlook Upholstery in 1980 with a simple aim: to bring real Welsh craftsmanship to the furniture and seating that people use every single day. That might be in a bar in Cardiff, a hotel in Newport, an office in Swansea, a family home in Caerphilly, or a campervan parked by the coast. Over 45 years later, we still work to that same standard from our modern workshop and showroom on Raglan Road in Hengoed.

We focus on two main areas that often overlap:

  • Commercial seating for bars, restaurants, hotels, and offices
  • Domestic upholstery, from heirloom sofa restoration to full campervan and motorhome interiors

Every stitch, every frame repair, and every cushion refill is carried out in-house by our team of time-served Welsh craftsmen and women. That gives us full control over quality, timelines, and pricing.

This guide explains how we work and what we offer across commercial, residential, and campervan upholstery in South Wales. You will find our history, services, materials, repair options, and the guarantees we stand by, so you can see how we help keep a favourite armchair, a busy venue, or a rolling home on wheels looking and feeling its best.

Newlook Upholstery

  • Newlook Upholstery has served South Wales since 1980 from our family-run workshop in Hengoed. Over four decades we have built long-term relationships with customers across the Caerphilly Borough and beyond, from small homes to large commercial venues.
  • We specialise in three main areas: hospitality and corporate seating, residential upholstery and restoration, and custom campervan and motorhome interiors. This range means we understand both heavy-duty commercial use and the sentimental value of furniture at home.
  • All work is completed in-house by our own Welsh team. From frame repairs to final fitting, nothing is outsourced, which keeps standards high, prices competitive, and communication clear.
  • Every project comes with a 2-year guarantee on labour and a transparent quoting process. We explain costs, agree timelines in advance, and cover the work we do on frames, stitching, and construction.
  • We offer a full-service approach, including specialist care for classic brands, pick-up and delivery across South Wales, loan furniture where suitable, campervan seating installation, and membership of the Association of Master Upholsterers as a mark of trade standards.

What Makes Custom Upholstery Services Essential For South Wales Businesses And Homeowners

When seating is made or recovered for a specific space, it does more than just fill a gap on a floor plan. Custom upholstery lets us match the exact size, comfort level, and style that a bar, office, home, or campervan needs. Unlike flat-pack or mass-produced furniture, made-to-order work considers:

  • The shape and size of the room or vehicle
  • How often the seating will be used
  • The kind of impression the owner wants to give

South Wales brings its own set of conditions that standard furniture often struggles with. Coastal air, older stone properties, and heated indoor spaces can all affect fabrics, foams, and frames over time. Busy bars and restaurants face constant spills and heavy wear. Family sofas live with kids, pets, and daily use. Campervans deal with moisture, changing temperatures, and tight layouts. When we design and build or recover seating for these settings, we choose materials and construction methods that suit these local realities.

There are strong economic and environmental reasons to choose restoration or custom work over buying new. Quality frames, especially in classic or older pieces, often outlast the fabric and fillings. By repairing the structure and recovering the outside, we can give a piece another decade or more of use at a fraction of the cost of replacing it with something of similar quality. The same thinking applies to commercial seating, where recovering dozens of chairs and benches often costs far less than buying new contract furniture.

For many homeowners, furniture is tied to memories as much as comfort. A sofa from a first home, a dining set passed down through family, or a favourite armchair can all be kept in use with skilled restoration. At the same time, supporting local craftsmanship keeps money and skills within the Welsh economy, so well-made furniture can stay part of a home or business story for generations.

Our 45-Year Story: From Aberbargoed To South Wales’ Premier Upholstery Workshop

Newlook Upholstery began in 1980 in a small unit in Aberbargoed. It was a modest workshop with one apprentice, a handful of tools, and a strong belief that careful, honest work would speak for itself. Word spread as we repaired and recovered furniture for neighbours, local businesses, and families who wanted their favourite pieces brought back to life.

As demand grew, we moved to the Old Cinema on Raglan Road in Hengoed. That building became our home for more than 25 years. Its larger space let us take on bigger commercial projects while still caring for domestic furniture. During those years we joined the Association of Master Upholsterers, formalising the standards we were already working to and connecting with the wider trade.

In January 2018 we moved again, staying on Raglan Road but stepping into a bigger, more modern premises. This building now houses our office, a welcoming showroom, and a fully equipped workshop. Customers can browse fabric books, talk through designs, and see real work in progress. While tools and layouts have changed since 1980, the heart of the business remains our team of time-served Welsh craftsmen and women.

We have seen styles and trends come and go, but our core approach is steady: every item, from a single dining chair to a full hotel refit, is treated with the same care. Today we are trusted across the Caerphilly Borough and wider South Wales for both commercial and residential work, and we carry the responsibility of that trust into every project.

Comprehensive Commercial Upholstery Services For Hospitality And Corporate Spaces

Custom upholstered restaurant booth seating in modern hospitality venue

Commercial seating has to work much harder than most domestic furniture. A bar stool in a busy venue may see thousands of guests in a year. Hotel lobby sofas must look smart round the clock, while office chairs need to support staff through long shifts. Our job is to create commercial upholstery that holds up to this kind of use, keeps people comfortable, and fits the visual style of the brand.

We start by understanding how a space works day to day. For a restaurant, we look at table layouts, how long guests usually stay, and how staff move through the room. In an office, we pay attention to how often chairs are used, what adjustment is needed, and what message the décor should send to visitors. We then work closely with owners, managers, and interior designers to design or recover seating that fits both the practical and visual needs of the space.

Material choice is especially important. We mainly use contract-grade fabrics, leathers, and vinyls tested for heavy wear and meeting fire safety standards. These materials are easier to clean, more resistant to staining, and less likely to fade or crack under constant use. Our construction reflects this demand, with reinforced frames, strong seams, and high-density foams that keep their shape longer.

Because work time is money for any business, we plan carefully to fit around opening hours or quieter periods. With all work carried out in-house, we can keep tight control of schedules and respond quickly if plans need to change.

Bar, Restaurant, And Hotel Seating Specialists

Hospitality spaces depend on how they feel to guests. Comfortable, well-designed seating encourages people to relax, stay longer, and return. We design and build bar seating that supports guests over an evening without looking tired after a few months. This can include:

  • High-backed stools
  • Padded bar fronts
  • Fixed seating that runs along walls

Banquet seating is common in hotels and event venues. We create long runs of seating that can be arranged in different layouts, combining firm support with enough comfort for extended dinners or meetings.

Custom booth seating is another strong area for us. Booths help venues make better use of floor space while creating cosy, private areas that guests enjoy. We plan the height, depth, and angle of booth backs to match the atmosphere the owner wants, from relaxed family dining to smart dining rooms. For all hospitality work, we recommend materials that resist spills, wipe clean easily, and keep their colour under varied lighting.

Office And Corporate Furniture Recovery

For offices and corporate spaces, recovering existing furniture is often wiser than replacing it. Quality task chairs, reception sofas, and breakout seating can be given new life with fresh upholstery and internal repairs at a lower cost than buying new furniture of the same standard.

We regularly work on:

  • Operator and task chairs
  • Boardroom and meeting seating
  • Reception benches and sofas
  • Breakout and informal seating

During recovery we can improve comfort with upgraded foams or better support where needed. At the same time, we match fabrics to corporate colours or existing décor so that everything feels cohesive. We plan collections and deliveries to suit working patterns, often in stages so that staff always have enough seating, and we help businesses cut waste by extending the life of existing assets.

Specialist Campervan And Motorhome Interior Upholstery Services

Custom campervan interior with rock and roll bed seating

The rise of van life and mobile travel has increased demand for campervan and motorhome interiors that feel both homely and practical. This is where our experience with custom seating, clever storage, and hard-wearing materials fits perfectly. We treat every vehicle interior as carefully as a fitted kitchen or living room, with the added challenge of movement, weight limits, and tight spaces.

Vehicle interiors have needs that standard upholstery is not designed to handle. Seats must cope with constant vibration, changing temperatures, and regular folding or sliding. Fabrics have to resist damp, fading from sunlight, and the occasional muddy boot. Foams must be comfortable to sit and sleep on without breaking down too quickly. We choose materials and build methods specifically for these conditions.

Our work covers classic campers, modern motorhomes, and full van conversions. Some customers arrive with a clear layout in mind, while others ask us to help plan it from the start. Either way, we measure each space carefully and create made-to-measure seating, cushions, and soft furnishings that make the most of every inch.

Custom Campervan Seating Options

We offer a wide range of seating styles to suit different van layouts and lifestyles, including:

  • Rock and roll beds that act as seats by day and fold into flat beds at night
  • Bench seats along one side, around a table, or in an L-shape, often with storage under the base
  • Captain’s chairs for drivers and passengers who spend long hours on the road
  • Corner and shaped seating to fill awkward gaps standard furniture cannot use
  • Foldable seating that clears floor space for bikes, surfboards, or larger gear

Storage-integrated seating is a particular strength. By building boxes, drawers, and lift-up bases into the seating, we help owners carry what they need without sacrificing comfort or style.

Materials And Customization For Vehicle Interiors

For campervans and motorhomes, we often recommend:

  • Contract vinyls and high-performance fabrics that wipe clean and handle temperature changes
  • Premium leathers for a more luxurious finish
  • Contract-grade foams for long-lasting comfort in both seating and beds
  • UV-resistant materials to help bright colours stay fresh in strong sunlight

To add a personal touch, we can include custom embroidery on headrests, seat backs, or cushions. This might be a family name, a business logo, or a design that reflects the character of the van.

Common Campervan Seating Repairs We Handle

Not every campervan needs a full interior build. Many owners come to us with:

  • Sagging or flattened foam in seats and beds
  • Torn, worn, or faded fabrics and leathers
  • Loose or squeaking frames and mechanisms
  • Pet damage, stains, or marks from damp

We replace foam, repair or recover seating, and reinforce frames so that vehicles remain safe, comfortable, and pleasant to travel in for many more trips.

Custom Residential Upholstery: Breathing New Life Into Cherished Furniture

Restored classic Parker-Knoll armchair in family home setting

In many homes, certain chairs, sofas, and footstools carry memories that new furniture cannot replace. A well-loved armchair by the window, a dining set that has seen decades of family meals, or a sofa from a first home can all feel like part of the family. Our residential upholstery work keeps those pieces comfortable, safe, and attractive for years to come.

When we assess a piece of furniture, we look beyond worn fabric. We check the frame, springs, and fillings to see what kind of work will give the best result. In many cases, the frame is solid and well-made, especially in older items. Recovering and repairing these pieces is often kinder to both the wallet and the environment than sending them to landfill and buying new.

Restoration also lets homeowners update the look of a favourite piece without losing its character. New fabric, colours, and details can bring an old sofa in line with a fresh décor scheme while still keeping its familiar shape. For us, domestic work is as important as large commercial projects, and we take pride in returning items that feel as good as, or better than, they did when first bought.

Our Core Residential Services

Our main residential services include:

  • Complete recovery of sofas, armchairs, and occasional chairs, including repairs to fillings and springs
  • Dining and kitchen seating, with coordinated fabrics on chairs, stools, and pouffes
  • Bedroom upholstery, such as new or recovered headboards for a strong focal point
  • Conservatory and cane furniture cushions using durable, fade-resistant fabrics
  • Loose covers that follow the shape of the sofa or chair but can be removed for cleaning

We guide customers through fabric choices so that the final result suits both the room and the way the furniture is used.

Specialists In Classic British Furniture Brands

Many pieces we see come from respected British furniture makers. We have long experience working with Duresta, Ercol, Parker-Knoll, and Cintique. Each maker has its own construction methods and finer details that need to be understood to restore the furniture properly.

When we work on items from these brands, we aim to keep the original character while improving comfort and appearance. That can mean matching traditional stitch patterns, using webbing styles that suit the original frame, or selecting materials that echo the look the maker intended. Our knowledge of these brands reassures owners that their valued furniture is in safe hands.

Our Proven Custom Upholstery Process: From Consultation To Delivery

Over 45 years we have developed a clear, customer-focused upholstery process that keeps projects running smoothly from first enquiry to final delivery. This applies whether we are recovering a single chair, refitting a busy restaurant, or creating a full campervan interior.

Because we keep all work in-house, we can manage each stage directly rather than passing tasks between different companies. That means better communication, shorter waiting times, and full responsibility for the finished result.

Step 1: Initial Consultation

Everything begins with a conversation. People contact us by phone, email, or by visiting our showroom in Hengoed. During this first talk we discuss what they want to achieve, whether that is restoring a family sofa, renewing seating in a bar, or fitting out a campervan.

If the project involves existing furniture, we assess its condition from clear photos or in person. We talk about how the item is used, preferred styles, and any particular problems that need solving. This consultation is friendly, honest, and carries no obligation.

Step 2: Design, Planning, And Material Selection

Once we understand the project, we invite customers to our showroom to look through our wide range of fabric books, leather samples, and contract vinyl options. Seeing and feeling materials in person makes a big difference, especially when matching existing décor or planning a bold new look.

We recommend suitable materials based on:

  • How and where the furniture will be used
  • The style the customer likes
  • The budget available

For commercial and campervan projects, we also look at floor plans, vehicle layouts, and technical needs, then provide a clear quotation and realistic timelines.

Step 3: Expert In-House Craftsmanship

When everything is agreed, the furniture or vehicle seating moves into our workshop. Our team of time-served Welsh craftsmen and women carry out all the work, from frame repairs and spring replacement to cutting fabrics and careful stitching. We blend traditional methods with modern equipment to achieve strong, neat, long-lasting results.

Throughout this stage, each piece is checked as it moves through stripping, repair, padding, and covering so that any issues are caught early.

Step 4: Convenient Logistics And Professional Installation

We know that moving furniture or taking a vehicle off the road is not always simple. To help, we offer a pick-up and delivery service across South Wales, including the Caerphilly Borough and surrounding areas. For some longer projects, we can provide loan furniture so that homes and businesses are not left without vital seating.

For fixed commercial seating and campervan interiors, our team carries out professional fitting to make sure everything is secure, level, and working correctly. Completed work comes with our 2-year labour guarantee.

Extensive Material Selection: Fabrics, Leathers, And Finishes

Selection of premium upholstery fabrics and leather samples

The materials used in upholstery are just as important as the skill of the person doing the work. The right fabric, leather, vinyl, or foam decides how long a piece lasts, how easy it is to live with, and how it feels to the touch. At Newlook Upholstery we keep a wide selection of materials so that we can match the needs of different settings, from quiet living rooms to busy hotel bars and moving vehicles.

Choosing between these options can feel overwhelming, which is why we guide customers through the pros and cons. We ask how often the furniture will be used, who will be using it, and what kind of cleaning is practical. With that information, we suggest materials that combine good looks with realistic day-to-day performance.

High-Performance Fabrics And Designer Options

Our showroom holds fabric books covering a wide range of colours, patterns, and textures. There are plain weaves for simple looks, bold prints for statement pieces, and everything in between. For homes and light-use areas, customers often enjoy softer, textured fabrics that give a cosy feel.

We also stock high-performance fabrics that include stain-resistant finishes and higher wear ratings. These are well suited to family rooms, open-plan spaces, and many commercial settings. For conservatories and campervans, we can provide fabrics that resist fading from sunlight.

Premium Leathers And Contract Vinyl

Leather remains a favourite choice for both classic and modern interiors. We offer a range of premium leathers in different colours and finishes, from smooth to more natural textures. Leather ages in a way many people enjoy, gaining character as it is used.

For very busy commercial spaces and campervans, contract vinyl can be a smart option. Modern vinyls are soft to the touch, easy to wipe clean, and available in many looks, including leather-style grains and bold solid colours. Many are designed to handle wide temperature swings, making them well suited to vehicle interiors.

Specialist Foams And Structural Components

Comfort and durability depend heavily on what is inside the furniture. We use high-density foams that keep their shape and support for longer, reducing sagging and flat spots. These foams can be cut to almost any shape, which is vital for custom seating and campervan layouts.

Alongside foams, we work with quality webbing, springs, and other structural parts. Replacing worn webbing and damaged springs restores the foundation of a seat, while new fibre fillings and foam top-ups bring cushions back to life.

Comprehensive Furniture Repair And Restoration Services

True restoration goes deeper than simply putting new fabric on an old frame. Many items arrive with loose joints, broken springs, or collapsed cushions. If these issues are not dealt with, even the best fabric will not sit well or last long. Our repair and restoration services are designed to tackle both the inner structure and the outer appearance of furniture.

We work on a wide variety of pieces, including domestic sofas and chairs, commercial seating, and campervan units. Some repairs are best carried out in our workshop, while others, such as certain spring repairs, can be completed on-site with our mobile service.

By repairing rather than replacing, customers can keep well-made items that simply need care, reduce waste, and often save money compared to buying new furniture of similar quality.

Structural And Framework Repairs

The frame of a chair or sofa keeps everything square, stable, and safe. Over time, joints can loosen, corner blocks can fail, and parts of the frame can crack. We repair and reinforce these areas so that the furniture feels solid again, removing wobbles and creaks.

Our mobile spring repair service lets us fix some seating without taking it away, which is helpful for heavy items or busy homes and venues. For more serious spring problems, we bring pieces back to the workshop for full replacement. We also renew webbing with strong, high-tension materials that restore proper support under cushions.

Cushion Restoration And Comfort Improvements

Sagging cushions are one of the most common complaints we hear. Foams and fibres compress over time, especially in favourite spots. We assess each cushion and recommend either full replacement or careful top-up to restore height and comfort.

New high-density foam brings back firm, supportive seating, while fibre fillings can be refreshed or replaced to give a softer feel. In some cases, customers choose to upgrade to a different type of filling from the original to better suit how they now use the furniture.

Surface Damage And Cosmetic Repairs

Surface damage such as tears, burns, and stains can make otherwise sound furniture look tired. We repair many of these issues with careful stitching, patching, or partial panel replacement, aiming to keep changes as discreet as possible. For leather, we can often reduce the appearance of scratches and minor marks with cleaning and colour work.

When stains or dye transfer have marked fabric or leather, we assess whether cleaning is likely to work or whether recovery is a better choice. Pet damage is another regular task, and we do our best to restore both appearance and function.

Across more than four decades, Newlook Upholstery has become a trusted name for businesses, homeowners, and campervan owners in South Wales. That trust rests on steady workmanship, honest advice, and a clear sense of responsibility for everything that leaves our workshop.

We combine traditional Welsh upholstery skills with a modern approach to service. That means we still care about hand-finished details and strong joints, while also offering conveniences like pick-up and delivery, loan furniture, and written guarantees.

Our membership in the Association of Master Upholsterers, our 2-year labour guarantee, and the loyalty of customers who return to us over generations all point in the same direction: when someone chooses Newlook Upholstery, they are choosing a team that takes pride in both craft and customer care.

“The details are not the details. They make the design.”
— Charles Eames

45 Years Of Master Craftsmanship

Since 1980, we have kept Newlook Upholstery as a family-run business with strong roots in South Wales. Many of our craftsmen and women have been with us for years, bringing deep practical knowledge to every project. Together, our team holds decades of combined experience in both traditional and modern upholstery techniques.

Being members of the Association of Master Upholsterers shows our commitment to recognised trade standards. We also pass on these skills to younger team members so that Welsh upholstery expertise continues into the future.

Our Quality Guarantees And Customer Care

We back every piece of work with a 2-year guarantee on labour. This covers structural repairs, stitching, and construction, giving clear cover if anything is not as it should be. Materials are supported by their own manufacturer guarantees where they apply, and we explain those details at the end of each project.

Pricing is straightforward and transparent. We provide detailed quotations before work begins, with no hidden extras at the end. Timelines are agreed in advance and we do everything we can to meet them, knowing that delays can affect homes, venues, and campervan plans.

In-House Production: The Newlook Advantage

One of our strongest advantages is that we keep the entire process in-house. We do not ship frames away for repair or send covers to be stitched somewhere else. This control lets us monitor quality at every stage and adjust quickly if a better option appears during a project.

In-house work also shortens waiting times because we are not relying on third parties or long transport chains. It allows us to respond to custom requests, minor design changes, or last-minute detail adjustments without fuss.

For more than 45 years, Newlook Upholstery has served South Wales with custom upholstery for commercial venues, homes, and campervans. FAQs

Question 1: How Long Does A Typical Upholstery Project Take?

Timescales vary based on what needs to be done and how busy the workshop is, but we always give a clear estimate at quotation stage. As a guide:

  • A small domestic project such as a single chair usually takes around two to three weeks from collection to return.
  • A full sofa recovery often runs to three to four weeks, especially if structural repairs are needed.

Commercial projects depend on scale and whether work is staged to reduce disruption, so we agree a plan during consultation. Campervan interiors and full conversions tend to take around four to six weeks once all designs and materials are confirmed. For urgent commercial needs, we sometimes offer faster turnaround where our schedule allows.

Question 2: Do You Offer A Pick-Up And Delivery Service?

Yes. We provide a convenient pick-up and delivery service across South Wales, including the Caerphilly Borough and many surrounding towns and cities. When a project is booked, we arrange collection at a time that suits the customer and handle all lifting and loading.

Once the work is complete, we return the furniture and place it back where it belongs in the home or business. Any costs for this service are discussed and agreed during the consultation.

Question 3: Can You Match Existing Fabric Or Create A Custom Look?

We hold an extensive fabric library with thousands of options in different colours, textures, and patterns. If a customer needs to match an existing fabric closely, we work from samples and, where possible, source something very similar, even if it is not in our current books. In some cases we can also order the exact fabric again if it is still in production.

For those wanting a fresh look, we help design something new that still sits well with the room or vehicle. We offer colour matching and coordination advice, plus options like contrast piping, decorative stitching, and custom embroidery for logos or personal designs. Where helpful, we provide small samples for customers to take home and view in their own lighting.

Question 4: What Is The Cost Of Custom Upholstery Services?

Costs depend on several factors, including:

  • The size and type of item
  • Its current condition
  • The materials chosen
  • Any structural repairs required

High-end fabrics and leathers cost more than basic ranges, and frame or spring repairs add to labour time. That is why we either inspect the furniture in person or work from clear photographs before giving a detailed quotation.

Our pricing is transparent and broken down so customers can see where their money is going. Because we work in-house, we can often offer better value than buying new furniture of similar quality. Commercial and campervan projects are priced to their specific plans and seating counts. All consultations and quotations are free and carry no obligation.

Question 5: Do You Work With Specific Furniture Brands?

Yes. We regularly work with classic British brands such as Duresta, Ercol, Parker-Knoll, and Cintique. We understand how these makers construct their frames, springs, and cushions, and we respect those methods when we restore or recover their pieces. That helps preserve the look and feel that made the furniture special in the first place.

We are also happy to work with furniture from many other makers, both modern and antique. Whatever the brand, we aim to protect the character of high-value pieces while improving comfort, safety, and appearance.

Question 6: What Guarantee Do You Offer On Your Work?

We provide a 2-year guarantee on all labour and workmanship. This covers frame repairs, spring work, stitching, and general construction carried out by our team. If a problem linked to our work appears within that period, we will assess it and agree how best to put it right.

Materials such as fabrics, leathers, vinyls, and foams are covered by their own manufacturer guarantees where these apply, and we explain these details when the project is finished.

Question 7: Can You Help With Campervan Seating If I’m Doing A Self-Build Conversion?

Yes. We often work with people building their own campervan conversions, similar to Custom camper conversion services, as well as professional conversion companies. We can advise on seating layouts that work well for the size and shape of the van, and discuss how to balance comfort, storage, and weight.

Customers can bring us measurements or basic drawings, and we will build seating to those dimensions. We can also talk through relevant safety points and typical expectations for travel seating. Some customers choose to have us install the seating, while others prefer to fit units themselves with our guidance. We regularly work with rock and roll bed frames and other more complex mechanisms, helping self-builders create safe, comfortable, and attractive interiors.
